The Brook Hospitals Hosts Police Crisis Intervention Training

The Brook Hospitals hosted an in-depth Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) course for 18 local police officers from May 19-21.  The goal of the training was to improve the way individuals with mental illnesses are treated by police officers.

During the 40-hour training, police officers were educated on how to better manage and interact with individuals suffering from mental illnesses, a common encounter in the law enforcement profession.

The entire exercise was a collaborative effort, involving many partners including psychiatrists, attorneys, local law enforcement, the judiciary department, community resources and other professionals.

In addition to providing training in its new outpatient center at The Brook - Dupont, The Brook Hospitals also provided breakfast and lunch to CIT participants throughout the three-day course. The Brook Hospitals have been proud sponsors and supporters of CIT since the program’s inception 10 years ago.
